Marlies van Schooten

Ms. Van Schooten is a development sociologist with emphasis on environmental issues and public administration. She has studied the social-economic impacts of tourism development in Brazil, but also worked in a travel agency organising package tours to tropical countries. Her consultancy work concentrates on the themes of environment and sustainable development, in practise and in relation to policy development. Her experiences in environmental matters and in tourism development were combined in the development of an approach towards sustainable tourism. Recently her work focuses on people's valuation of the environment, citizens values assessments, the integration of social aspects in impact assessment, and risk perception, in the Netherlands as well as in international context. Van Schooten has worked in Africa and South America and has practical skills in five languages.
